Gifted and Talented Endorsement

The School of Teacher Education and Leadership at Utah State University provides teacher preparation programs in gifted and talented education in order to develop educators who have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to provide high quality services in a variety of settings to diverse individuals with unique gifts and talents.

Endorsement Program

The Gifted and Talented endorsement is awarded by the Utah State Office of Education upon the recommendation of an institution of higher education with an approved endorsement program, which includes the program at Utah State University (USU). The endorsement applicant must hold a valid Utah teaching license. The USU program is usually offered in partnership with local school districts under a memorandum of understanding with USU regional Campuses and Distance Education. Courses are offered during fall, spring, and summer semesters according to a schedule established by the partnering school district. Classes are typically taught faceto-face and are housed at a location determined by the partnering school

Program Standards

Sixteen semester credit hours are required to receive a recommendation from USU for the Gifted and Talented Endorsement. All coursework must be completed within 8 years of the date application is made for the endorsement. All applicants through USU must successfully complete the 12 credits of required courses and 4 credit of improvement of curriculum and instruction in the content areas.
